Eaton’s ELocker® has been quite the revolutionary piece of rotational ingenuity. With the ability to be open or locked at the driver’s behest, vehicles so equipped are able to get the mileage benefits of one-wheel-peel when off and paired performance when engaged.
The latest additions to the ELocker® lineup are destined for the Jeep lifers. 2018-current Wrangler JL and 2020-current Gladiator JT models are covered. Front axles include Dana 30 and 44 variants while rear ends are either the 35 or 44 series.
The benefit of the ELocker® over other convertible technologies like air lockers is that the electronic unit requires only a bit of wiring instead of an entire on-board air compressor system. A dash-mounted switch controls function which can be engaged on the fly as long as the conditions are right.
Forged internals and a one-year warranty contribute to the reliability and durability of the diff. Standard gear oils can be used, making an ELocker® installation not all that different from any other wheel spinner. The additional steps mainly revolve around running the electrics; a hole does have to be drilled in the axle housing to connect the included harness.
That little bit of extra work is well worth the effort as a heavy dose of on-demand traction is the result. Taking to the trails with real four-wheeled operation on tap can help your rig will be the puller instead of the pullee in the event that someone gets stuck, so give Eaton a call to make sure your differentials can do it.
